Down by the harbour

I’ve often thought that while I enjoy visiting Sydney, it’s not necessarily a city where I’d like to live. One afternoon picnicking by the harbour has done a lot to change that…

I suspect this country instills a good travel sense in people because it just takes so long to get anywhere. You’ve got to travel three and a half hours to get from one big city to the next (at least) so you just get used to the travel. I got quite excited when living on the coast because I was only 90 minutes travel from Sydney – close enough for day trips! Yet a friend who lived in England for some time said when she proposed a trip to somewhere just an hour away, her hosts were horrified at the distance. If you had that attitude in some parts of Australia you wouldn’t be able to buy groceries!
